Huell Howser, Banning?s 2004 parade grand marshal, dies

Huell Howser, host of the TV show ?California?s Gold,? was the Banning Stagecoach Days grand marshal in 2004.

He died Jan. 6 in Palm Springs at the age of 67.

Formerly a native of Tennessee, Howser worked in Nashville and New York City before coming to Los Angeles in 1981.

He began working at KCET in 1987. The public TV host celebrated the odd and the oddly wonderful on his many shows.

He retired in November.

Howser was the most adored documentarian of the out of the way and the little known.

Before retiring Howser had completed 18 seasons and more than 400 episodes of ?California?s Gold.?
