Apple could be about to add a third new partnership if talks of bringing the iPhone to NTT DoCoMo are correct.
T-Mobile is to launch the iPhone in the US in the coming months in addition to news of a China Mobile partnership for the iPhone.
NTT DoCMo is Japan?s largest carrier with some 60 million customers. This amounts to nearly half of all Japanese mobile users. However, being the biggest does not always mean the best as the carrier has been losing a huge amount of customers and it places the blame at the door of Apple?s iPhone.
Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun?reports?via?Brightwire:
?Katoru Kat?, president of NTT DoCoMo Inc., said that the firm would want to add the iPhone to its lineup of serviced smartphones if it could form a mutually beneficial contract with Apple, Inc.
Apple requires that carriers servicing its devices sell a fixed amount per year. Kat? said that his company could handle such quotas if iPhones accounted for approximately 20%-30% of its overall smartphone sales.?
Recent figures quoted SoftBank with new sign-ups of 274,000, KDDI 239,200 and DoCoMo 235,100. Sprint and T-Mobile has suffered losses following in the footsteps of Japan due to their on-stock of the iPhone.
It would appear that carrying the iPhone has a huge number of benefits, the first being customers and their contracts.
